Our ancesters were recycling long before we gave it a title and said we were saving the planet. They used all materials they had and often purchased or were given parts of buildings from adjacent properties or structures. As we are dismantling we will often see evidence of another building that has been integrated into the original structure. This oft time came from necessity as a family grew thus so did the house or cabin. And sometimes changes came as new residents took ownership and they wished to update to the latest style .No matter the circumstance these houses are great examples of how people lived "green" and in doing so left us a nice piece of history.
The Martin House
A very clean hand hewn and mostly oak cabin from Northern PA. This circa 1840 house is 16 X 30 and demonstrates a great timeline of different owners and changes to the structure over its life time. A a timbered addition was added probably around 1890's and the roof line was changed to accommodate the add-on. In 1950's another stick frame was added to the side and the upstairs window was changed to a door. This can be changed back and the replacement log is included. The window openings are slightly larger than the normal 6 over 6 period style and enables larger windows and more light inside. This log structure could easily be put back up as a stand alone or as an addition.
We are including the timbered frame with the building and at least two full floors of salvagable flooring. The floor joists are hand planned 3 X 8's with a small bead. Several additional floor joists and a small bead board wall also comes with the cabin that came out of the timbered addition. A great buy for the money!
Cost: $13,500
